Dolmen nord Wéris, Passage grave in Wéris, Belgium.

The North Dolmen of Wéris is a megalithic tomb built with large stone slabs arranged in a passage that leads to a burial chamber. A massive capstone weighing about 30 tons sits on top of the structure, creating a durable roof that has protected the interior for thousands of years.

This megalithic tomb dates back to around 3000 BCE and belongs to the Seine-Oise-Marne culture, an early society that lived in western Europe. It was first officially recorded by Major Auguste Daufresne in 1879 and has since been recognized as important evidence of prehistoric construction methods.

Three standing stones frame the entrance to the burial chamber, showing how Neolithic builders understood stone placement. You can see how carefully these markers guided people into the sacred space inside.

The site is open year-round without entrance fees, but you must view the structure from outside to protect the ancient stones. It sits in open countryside, so plan your visit with weather in mind and allow time to walk around the monument.

This tomb is part of an alignment of megalithic monuments stretching about 8 kilometers, containing the largest concentration of dolmens in Belgium. This cluster reveals that the area held special importance for prehistoric communities as a place to honor their dead.
