Fresque des Wallons, Public mural at City Hall, Namur, Belgium.
Fresque des Wallons is a large-scale mural painting covering the entire gable of Namur City Hall extension. The artwork depicts around 250 figures and regional motifs rendered in detailed execution.
The mural was created by the CitéCréation art group between April and August 2004. It received its official inauguration during Wallonia celebrations in September 2004.
The mural displays important Walloon personalities such as Charlemagne and Georges Simenon alongside regional symbols like the Walloon rooster. These representations tell stories about the identity and traditions of the region that people in Namur encounter daily.
The mural is located in the Jardins du Maïeur area and is easily accessible from outside as an outdoor artwork. The piece underwent comprehensive restoration in 2018 to preserve its quality.
Two young painters from Namur Academy of Fine Arts received specialized training as muralists during the creation of the artwork. This was a rare opportunity for the local artistic community to learn directly from international art professionals.
