Cangues d'Onís, Administrative division in eastern Asturias, Spain

Cangues d'Onís is a council in eastern Asturies, Spain, spreading across mountainous terrain. The Sella, Güeña and Dobra rivers flow through the territory, creating valleys between the peaks.

The settlement became the first capital of the Kingdom of Asturies in the eighth century. Santa Cruz church was built in 737 over a prehistoric dolmen.

The Sunday market brings together farmers and artisans offering fresh food, cheese, and regional products. Visitors can watch residents shop for their daily needs and sample local specialties.

The area serves as a gateway to Picos de Europa National Park and the Covadonga lakes. Mountain roads connect villages and lead higher into the peaks.

A medieval stone bridge crosses the Sella with a large Victory Cross hanging between the central arches. The cross floats in midair above the water.
