Monastery of Santa María de Matallana, Cistercian monastery ruins in Villalba de los Alcores, Spain.

The stone remains of Santa María de Matallana extend across a rural landscape between the regions of Tierra de Campos and Montes Torozos.

The monastery, founded in the late 12th century by Tello Pérez de Meneses and his wife, received support from King Alfonso VIII until its dissolution in 1835.

The monastery structure exhibits both Romanesque and Gothic architectural elements, reflecting the construction techniques and religious practices of medieval Spain.

The site operates as a Nature Interpretation Center, open Monday through Friday from 10:00 to 14:00 by appointment, with extended hours during summer weekends.

The monastery originally served as a hospital for Canal of Castilla workers before transforming into an agricultural operation through the centuries.
