Fuenteungrillo, Archaeological site in Villalba de los Alcores, Spain

Fuenteungrillo is an abandoned medieval settlement in Villalba de los Alcores with stone remains of houses, churches, a fortress, and a burial ground. The ruins are scattered across the terrain and give a sense of the original village layout.

The settlement began developing in the late 10th century and was active from the 11th through 14th centuries. From the 15th century onward, residents gradually departed until the village was completely abandoned.

The settlement shows how a medieval community was organized across different zones for various purposes. The layout of building remains reveals how people lived and worked together in that time.

The site lies about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) west of Villalba de los Alcores village and is open to visitors. The ruins sit in open terrain, so weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear are practical considerations.

Two separate neighborhoods with different building styles stand side by side at this location, showing how the settlement expanded over centuries. Researchers can observe how the village structure changed throughout the medieval period.
