Béjar

Béjar is a municipality in the Province of Salamanca in Spain, spread across mountainous terrain near the Sierra de Francia range. It sits 72 kilometers (about 45 miles) from Salamanca at an elevation of 959 meters (around 3150 feet) and shows characteristic architecture from different centuries.

The settlement relocated to its current location in the first half of the 14th century and received multiple confirmations of its municipal charter. The Ducal Palace dates from the 16th century and reflects the importance of the town during the Renaissance.

During the Corpus Christi celebration, participants covered in green moss walk through the streets in a tradition specific to Béjar. This custom draws many onlookers each year who come to witness the unusual procession and its connection to local identity.
