Iglesia de San Bartolomé

The Iglesia de San Bartolomé is a medieval church in central Toledo featuring three naves and an octagonal apse. Its exterior walls display double arches in varying styles across three levels, creating a layered appearance that reflects the building's complex construction history.

Construction began in 1145 and the building evolved through continuous changes over the centuries. By the 19th century it was transformed as part of the Jerónimas de la Reina monastery and took on new functions.

The building shows a visible blend of Christian and Islamic architectural styles in its design. The tower displays features of Islamic minarets mixed with medieval Christian construction, reflecting the long shared history of the city.

The building sits in central Toledo and is easily reached on foot from many historic locations. Since it now functions as a seminary, visits are possible but access may vary depending on current activities inside.

Visigothic remains are integrated into the walls, discovered during the 1940 restoration beneath the medieval construction. These older stones reveal that the church was built directly atop an even earlier structure.
