Los Gigantes, Resort town in Santiago del Teide, Spain
Los Gigantes is a coastal settlement on Tenerife's western shore, characterized by towering cliff walls that rise dramatically along the shoreline for several kilometers. The place centers on a natural harbor with black sand beach, a protected marina, and waterfront buildings housing shops and restaurants.
The indigenous Guanche people named these cliffs the Devil's Wall, viewing them as a natural boundary protecting their lands. The area later developed as a fishing settlement and eventually transformed into the coastal resort it is today.
The Marinero district displays traditional Canarian houses with whitewashed walls and wooden balconies typical of the islands. Locals and visitors move through narrow streets lined with these characteristic buildings, giving the area its distinctive residential feel.
The marina provides access to water activities including whale watching, diving trips, and boat excursions to nearby coastal areas. Wind conditions can be strong here, and ocean currents are powerful, so swimming and water activities require attention to safety conditions.
The black sand beach owes its dark color to volcanic origin, composed of minerals from nearby volcanic activity. This feature makes the beach visually distinct from typical golden shores found elsewhere in the region.
