Erjos, Mountain village between Los Silos and El Tanque in Tenerife, Spain
Erjos is a mountain village perched at 1273 meters elevation, making it the highest settlement in Los Silos municipality on northern Tenerife. The community sits between Los Silos and El Tanque, offering views across the surrounding terrain.
The area was established in the early 16th century during European colonization of Tenerife, when Juan de Saucedo received land grants in the region. These early Spanish settlers developed the location as a residential community with farming activities.
The agricultural heritage of Erjos centers on dryland farming practices and livestock raising, which shaped the local community over generations.
The village is accessible via the TF-82 road connecting Icod de los Vinos with Armenime, which has regular bus services operated by TITSA. The high elevation means cooler weather and reduced visibility during adverse conditions.
The Erjos pools formed from former earth extraction sites and fill with water during the rainy season. These temporary lakes create an unexpected water landscape across the dry mountain terrain during wetter months.
