Siam Park, Water park in Costa Adeje, Spain
Siam Park is a water park in Adeje on the south coast of Tenerife, offering water slides, wave pools and lazy river channels across an area of about 19 hectares (47 acres). The site divides into several themed zones with different difficulty levels, from calm swimming pools to steep descents.
Planning began in the early 2000s on the initiative of a family with connections to Thailand, and the official opening took place in 2008. The construction phase lasted several years and involved creating artificial waterways as well as building structures in Asian style.
The site takes its name from the old term for Thailand, and its buildings follow traditional construction principles with curved roofs and golden ornaments. Visitors notice statues, pagodas and tropical planting that together form an artificial landscape where families rest between attractions.
Most attractions open simultaneously in the morning, and on warm days the site fills up quickly. Those who arrive early find shorter waiting times at the steepest slides and more space in the rest areas.
A shallow swimming pool with artificial sand generates waves up to three meters (10 feet) high, making it one of the largest artificial wave areas in Europe. The mechanism uses a chamber that releases water at short intervals, forming regular waves.
