Playa del Camison, Golden sand beach in Playa de las Americas, Spain
Playa del Camison is a sandy beach on the southern coast of Tenerife, located in the resort area of Playa de las Américas. Two breakwaters shelter the bay, keeping the water calm throughout the year, and a seafront promenade runs directly behind the sand.
The southern coast of Tenerife was largely undeveloped until the mid-20th century, when large-scale tourism projects began reshaping the area in the 1960s. Playa del Camison was built up during this period, with the breakwaters added later to make swimming safer for visitors.
The beach sits right along the promenade of Playa de las Américas, where cafés, restaurants, and shops line the walkway just steps from the sand. The mix of local families and visitors from many countries gives the place a relaxed but sociable feel throughout the day.
The beach is wheelchair accessible and has showers located directly on the promenade. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available to rent on site, so visiting without your own equipment is straightforward.
The natural sand on this part of the coast was originally dark and volcanic, typical of southern Tenerife, but it was replaced with lighter imported sand to match visitor expectations. The volcanic origin of the coastline is still visible in the rocks at the edges of the beach.
