Sculpture Island Park, Sculpture garden in Pontevedra, Spain.
Sculpture Island Park is an art garden along the Lérez River featuring granite sculptures integrated into the natural surroundings. The site combines artistic installations with the riverbank and creates paths where visitors walk and discover different works.
The park was founded in 1999 during the St James Holy Year celebrations and presents works by twelve international artists. This establishment connected the city with global artistic creation and anchored it in the cultural calendar.
The park displays works like Anselmo's Sky Shortened and Holzer's Stone Benches with engraved messages that visitors discover while walking. Each artwork has its own place in the landscape and contributes to the overall experience.
The park is walkable from the city center and offers several rest areas spread throughout the grounds. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes since the paths along the river are uneven in some spots.
Fernando Casás created an installation using charred tree trunks that represents an ancient Hebrew tradition about balance between life and death. This work stands apart from the other pieces because it weaves direct spiritual symbolism into the natural landscape.
