Pazo of Mugartegui, Baroque mansion in Pedreira Square, Pontevedra, Spain.
The Pazo of Mugartegui is a baroque mansion located in Pedreira Square in Pontevedra with an elaborately crafted stone facade. The front displays seven arches supported by Tuscan columns and features a central balcony adorned with ornamental details.
Master stonemason Pedro Antonio Ferreiro constructed this residence in 1771 for José Manuel Valladares y Figueroa, replacing a previous structure on the same site. The construction represented a significant addition to the city's architectural landscape of that period.
The building now serves as home to the Regulatory Council of the Rías Baixas Designation of Origin and a wine museum. Visitors can explore the importance of this renowned wine region here.
The main hall opens for cultural events, public celebrations, and ceremonies, including traditional wedding festivities held throughout the year. The location sits centrally in the city square, making it easy to reach on foot.
A sundial positioned above the coat of arms was installed in 1773 and marks the passage of time on the front facade. This functional ornament demonstrates the craftsmanship of the stonemasons who worked on the building.
