Liceo Casino, Cultural society building in Pontevedra, Spain.
Liceo Casino is a social club building featuring neoclassical architecture with three facades, a central projecting section, and a wide entrance staircase at street level. The structure continues to operate as an active membership club, hosting regular cultural events and gatherings throughout the year.
The organization was founded in 1855 and relocated to its current location in 1878, incorporating stones from the demolished Tower of Churruchaos into its structure. Following a fire in 1980, architects Enrique Barreiro Álvarez and Carlos Alvira Dupla restored the building, completing the work in 1983.
The entrance features carved symbols representing different forms of arts, showing the institution's commitment to cultural life. These decorative details remind visitors of the building's role as a hub for artistic gatherings and cultural activities in the city.
The building is accessible to visitors interested in attending cultural events or viewing the restored spaces. It is best to check ahead for scheduled activities and access times since it operates as a private membership club.
The building was constructed using stones from a demolished medieval tower that had belonged to another historic site in the city. This recycling approach merges two different chapters of local history within a single structure.
