Pontevedra Principal Theatre

Pontevedra Principal Theatre is a natural stone building with symmetrically arranged granite-framed windows and doors, topped by a pediment featuring an arched entrance. The interior contains seating across multiple levels with 434 seats total, designed to provide clear sightlines to the stage.

The Saint Bartholomew Church stood at this location until its demolition in 1844, after which construction of the theater began two decades later. The building opened in 1878, becoming an important center for cultural life in the city.

The building is named after the nearby main square and has long served as a gathering place for artists and audiences from across the region. Theater attendance here remains a social occasion, reflecting local customs around evening entertainment and artistic expression.

The theater is located in Pontevedra's old town on Paio Gomez Charino Street and is easily reached on foot from the city center. Be aware that the historic interior includes stairs, so the building has some accessibility limitations for those with mobility difficulties.
