Plaza de Toros de los Califas, Bullring in Córdoba, Spain.
The Plaza de Toros de los Califas is a bullring with a circular structure featuring red tiered seating arranged across multiple levels. The venue accommodates nearly 17,000 spectators and includes specialized areas designed for different aspects of bullfighting events.
Architect José Rebollo Dicenta designed this modern bullring, which opened in 1965 with a charity event for the Spanish Association against Cancer. The venue was built during a period when Córdoba solidified its status as a major center of bullfighting tradition.
The name honors five legendary matadors from Córdoba whose careers shaped the city's tradition. Walking through the venue, you sense how deeply these local figures are woven into the place's identity and its connection to bullfighting culture.
The bullring sits on Avenida Gran Vía Parque and offers guided tours throughout the year for visitors interested in exploring the venue. Parking, shops, and bars are available on-site, making it convenient to spend time at the location.
The original 1965 structural design remains intact today, including specialized facilities like animal pens, medical rooms, and preparation spaces for matadors. These preserved details offer visitors an authentic glimpse into how a bullring was organized at its opening.
