Hotel Reina Cristina, building in Algeciras, Spain

Hotel Reina Cristina is an establishment in Algeciras founded over 100 years ago and located near the port. The building combines remnants of a Moorish mosque from the 8th century with Victorian elements and modern facilities such as pools and tennis courts.

The hotel was founded in 1901 and quickly became a meeting place for kings, queens, and statesmen like Churchill and Roosevelt. In 1906, it hosted the Algeciras Conference where diplomats from 12 countries negotiated the division of Morocco.

The hotel is named after Queen Cristina and served for generations as a meeting place for diplomats and travelers from around the world. Walking through its lounges with carved wooden doors and large green glass chandeliers, visitors can still sense the cosmopolitan atmosphere of those days.

The hotel is located near the port and offers convenient access to the city's main transport hubs. With restaurants, bars, and free Wi-Fi on site, visitors can stay connected and move easily while exploring the area.

During World War II, spies used the hotel to watch Gibraltar and converted bathrooms into darkrooms for espionage photography. Every room with a sea view was strategically valuable, and traces of this hidden history remain visible in the building.
