Museo Municipal de Bellas Artes de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Fine arts museum in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain
This fine arts museum contains fourteen exhibition rooms featuring paintings and sculptures spanning from the sixteenth century to the twentieth century. The collection presents works by artists from different periods and regional backgrounds displayed throughout the gallery spaces.
The building was designed in 1929 by architect Eladio Laredo following classical design principles. The museum's origins trace back to a municipal effort that began preserving historical materials from the French Revolutionary period.
The building's exterior displays ten bronze busts honoring important people from Tenerife's past. These sculptures serve as a visible connection to the island's notable figures and their legacies.
The museum is located next to the Church of Saint Francis of Assisi on José Murphy Street, making it easily accessible by foot. The exhibition rooms are logically arranged, allowing visitors to move through the galleries at their own pace.
One of the most significant holdings is the Triptico de Nava y Grimón created by Flemish painter Pieter Coecke. The museum also houses important works by Juan de Miranda, a local artist whose contributions are frequently overlooked by visitors.
