Four prominent architects contributed to the building's design between 1983 and 1998: Francisco Javier de Marietegui, Narciso Pascual Colomer, Francisco Jareño y Alarcón, and Francisco Javier de Luque.
The building received designation as Bien de Interés Cultural in November 1980, marking its status as a protected cultural asset in Spain.
The structure serves multiple functions within the university system, supporting academic events, ceremonies, and administrative meetings throughout the academic year.
From 1983 until 1998, this educational facility also functioned as the temporary headquarters for the Assembly of Madrid.
