Church of Santa María de la Corte

The Church of Santa María de la Corte is a 16th-century church located in the old city center next to the San Vicente Monastery. The building features a straightforward design with a simple exterior and an interior decorated with religious paintings from various periods.

The church was built in the 16th century on the foundations of an earlier monastery and was designed by architects Juan de Cerecedo and Juan del Ribero Rada. In the early 21st century, the building underwent major restoration to preserve its historical integrity.

The name comes from its origins as a chapel for the royal court, which is reflected in its simple yet dignified interior decoration. The religious artwork inside speaks to the spiritual needs of those who worshipped here over centuries.
