Jardín de los Reyes Caudillos, Sculpture garden near Cathedral of Oviedo, Spain.
The Garden of the Royal Leaders is a sculpture space next to Oviedo Cathedral featuring stone figures of twelve Asturian rulers. The works were carved by three different artists and show the complete line of monarchs from King Pelayo to Alfonso III.
The sculpture space was inaugurated in 1942 to mark the thousand-year anniversary of the Holy Chamber of Oviedo Cathedral. This celebration marked an important moment in recognizing Asturian historical significance.
The statues honor the rulers who shaped Asturias, showing how important the region's royal past remains to its people. The space is used by visitors to connect with Asturian heritage and pride.
The space is located at Calle del Águila 5 directly beside the Cathedral and Plaza Alfonso II el Casto and is easy to reach on foot. Visitors can view the sculptures at their own pace and have free access to the surrounding historic sites from there.
Each of the three artists brought their own approach to depicting the monarchs, giving the garden visual variety and personality. These contrasting styles side by side create an engaging effect that rewards close looking.
