Camposagrado Palace, Baroque palace in historical center of Oviedo, Spain
Camposagrado Palace is a Baroque palace in the historical center of Oviedo with a cube-shaped form and two distinct facades. The structure combines Baroque and Rococo elements through detailed stonework, columns, and richly ornamented surfaces throughout.
The palace was built between 1719 and 1752 for the noble family Bernaldo de Quirós and represented their significant wealth and power. In 1934, fire destroyed much of the structure during the Asturian miners' rebellion, though it was later carefully restored.
The building shows how wealthy families in the 1700s displayed their status through elaborate architecture. You can still see this today in the finely carved stonework and gracefully designed spaces throughout.
The palace is located at Plaza de Porlier in central Oviedo, surrounded by other historical buildings that make for pleasant walking. The building now houses the Supreme Court of Asturias and can be admired from the outside, though the interior is not open to visitors.
The building contains two separate grand staircases, each connecting to different entrances from San Juan Street and Porlier Square. This allowed the residents to keep formal and private activities physically separated within the same structure.
