Palau del Marqués de Campo, 17th-century palace in Plaza del Arzobispo, Valencia, Spain
Palau del Marqués de Campo is a palace from the 17th century located at Plaza del Arzobispo featuring twin latticed doors that open onto an arcaded courtyard. The interior contains multiple decorated rooms accessed by a period staircase on the main floor.
The building was originally constructed for the Duke of Villahermosa and later became the residence of José Campo when he acquired it in 1840. He owned it during his years serving as the city's mayor.
The palace houses eight canvas paintings by José Vergara, originally created for the Santa Rosa de Lima chapel in the Real Casa del Enseñanza.
The building sits in a central location and is easy to find on foot through the historic quarter. Plan to spend an hour or two to walk through the rooms comfortably at your own pace.
One room stands out: La Serre, a restored greenhouse space decorated with Baroque craftsmanship beneath a sgraffito dome. The decorative shell elements supporting the ceiling show exceptional artisan work rarely seen elsewhere.
