Casa del Punt de Ganxo, Art Nouveau building in La Seu district, Valencia, Spain
Casa del Punt de Ganxo is a five-story Art Nouveau building in Valencia's old quarter with a distinctive red facade. It features stone balconies, iron railings, and two corner viewing galleries that mark its presence on the Plaza de la Almoina.
Manuel Peris Ferrando designed this residence in 1906, and it was built directly above the site of the former Saint Valero chapel dating to 1719. The construction represents how Valencia developed in the early 1900s, with new residential buildings replacing older religious structures.
The building reflects influences from Belgian modernism but incorporates local Valencian design elements that give it regional character. You can see this blend in the stone balconies and ironwork, which speak to how Valencia adapted wider European trends to its own taste.
The building is located at Plaza de la Almoina number 4 and retains its original entrance door and decorative facade details from the early 1900s. The red exterior is clearly visible from street level, and the old town location makes it accessible by foot.
The red facade incorporates plant motifs created through sgraffito techniques and displays circular windows with botanical patterns. These details are characteristic of the Valencian Art Nouveau movement and add artistic depth to the building's appearance.
