Conjunto histórico de Arona, Historic heritage site in Arona, Spain
The Conjunto histórico de Arona is a protected historical area extending from Plaza de la Iglesia with traditional Spanish houses featuring 19th-century architectural details. The buildings in the center preserve their original structure and distinctive characteristics from that period.
The settlement began in 1625 when Antón Domínguez received land rights stretching from Los Cristianos to Los Quemados and established a new community there. The area gained independence from Vilaflor in 1798 and subsequently developed as a separate town.
The chapel of San Antonio Abad remains the spiritual heart of the community and shaped how the settlement developed around it. The plaza in front of the church serves as a gathering point where residents and visitors experience the local way of life.
The best time to explore is early morning or late afternoon when the streets are less crowded and the sun is not as intense. Wear comfortable shoes because the historic streets are narrow and partially paved with uneven surfaces.
Casa La Bodega demonstrates through its various renovations how residential architecture evolved in the region over time. The house preserves visible traces of different building phases that reflect the area's development.
