Arona

Arona is a coastal municipality in southern Tenerife that spans approximately 81 square kilometers and extends across 15 kilometers of volcanic beaches along the Atlantic Ocean. The landscape combines mountainous terrain with black sand shores and includes several tourist-oriented areas such as Los Cristianos and Playa de las Américas.

The construction of the San Antonio Abad hermitage in the 17th century marked the moment when this area became independent from the neighboring municipality of Vilaflor. This event established the foundation for the growth of a separate community.

The main parish church showcases carved religious figures made by local artisans, including representations of the Virgen de la Concepción and Cristo de la Salud. These works reflect the spiritual life and artistic traditions that shape community identity.

The area enjoys mild weather throughout the year with pleasant temperatures suitable for outdoor activity. Hotels, restaurants, and beaches are distributed across several districts like Los Cristianos and Playa de las Américas, making it easy to find options that match your needs.

The protected marine zone called Teno-Rasca near here is home to marine mammals, and visitors might spot whales in their natural setting during certain seasons. These waters rank among the best spots in the region for whale watching.
