Church of Saint Peter is a Baroque parish church in the main square of Agost, Spain. It stands alone with two domes, a tall bell tower, and a south-facing facade with a classical stone entrance and a wrought-iron gate.
The first church was built in the 1500s, then expanded and decorated further during the 1700s. The Communion Chapel was added between 1731 and 1735, becoming one of the finest examples of local Baroque work.
During local festivals, villagers decorate the entrance with flowers and banners, and processions pass close by before moving through the narrow streets. The bells, cast in 1791, still mark special occasions and make the church an audible part of daily routines.
You can walk around the outside freely to see the stone details and two doorways from different centuries. Inside, the quieter side chapels and the Communion Chapel are easier to visit outside service times, and the bell tower is a useful point to orient yourself in the town.
The church has two entrance doorways from different centuries, each named after a different dedication: the Virgen doorway from the 1600s and the San Pedro doorway from the 1700s. The bells in the tower have been ringing since 1791, still audible today during services and celebrations.
