Casa Museo de Zacarías González, House museum in Salamanca, Spain
The Casa Museo de Zacarías González is a house museum on Calle Alarcón in Salamanca, dedicated to the life and work of the local painter of the same name. The rooms are kept much as he left them, with personal belongings, brushes, an easel, and over 600 paintings displayed throughout the house.
Zacarías González lived and worked in this house for many years until his death. In 2005 his sister Basilisa donated the full estate, including the paintings and the property, to the Fundación Caja Duero, which had already converted the building into a museum in 2004.
Guided visits must be booked by phone in advance, so it is worth checking current opening hours on the museum's website before you go. The house sits just outside the old town and is easy to reach on foot from the city center.
The painter's works reached collections in France, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, and Japan, well beyond his home city. The restoration of the house was led by Agustín Ferreira, a friend and student of the artist, who kept the original rooms intact.
