Cabeza de la Yegua

Cabeza de la Yegua is a summit rising to 2,142 meters in the Montes Aquilianos range, standing between the Bierzo and Cabrera regions. The slopes feature mountain vegetation with steep terrain offering panoramic views from the top.

This peak functioned as a natural boundary between territories throughout the development of León province's administrative divisions. Its role as a dividing line shaped its strategic importance in the region's past.

Local herding communities have maintained pastoral traditions on these slopes for generations, keeping age-old grazing practices alive across the region.

Multiple marked trails lead to the summit from various starting points, with the southern route offering a gentler climb. The best climbing season runs from late spring through early autumn when weather conditions are more stable.

From the summit, visitors can observe both the Bierzo valley and the Cabrera region in a single view. This vantage point shows how two geographically different zones meet at this location.
