Casa de Piedra, Rock-carved house museum in Alcolea del Pinar, Spain.
Casa de Piedra is a sandstone-carved dwelling in Alcolea del Pinar with multiple rooms, a kitchen, and living spaces cut directly into the natural rock formation. The interior contains stone-carved furniture, shelves, and a fireplace integrated into the rock structure.
A man named Lino Bueno created this dwelling between 1907 and 1928 through years of persistent effort using basic iron tools. He worked primarily at night and used daytime hours for agricultural work to sustain his project.
The house demonstrates how residents lived simply and shaped their daily surroundings directly from natural stone rather than building above ground. Visitors can see how people made their living spaces from the rock itself.
The house is located in central Spain and offers free entry, allowing visitors to see furniture, shelves, and fireplaces carved into the stone. Wearing comfortable shoes is helpful since the interior sits on uneven rock surfaces.
The residence contains two levels with carved drainage systems and feeding troughs, showing that the occupant also housed livestock inside the dwelling. Electrical wiring was later installed directly through the rock walls to connect the house to power.
