La Cava

La Cava is an archaeological site in central Spain containing the remains of a Celtiberian settlement. You can see exposed foundations, pottery fragments, and metal objects that show the scale and layout of how people lived and worked here.

The settlement was an important center for living and trading during the Celtiberian period, before Roman conquest arrived in the region. It was abandoned as Rome expanded and lay buried for centuries until archaeologists began their work.

The site shows how Celtiberian communities lived and worked, with traces of crafts and everyday objects still visible in the excavated areas. The remains tell the story of people who traded here and built homes from stone and wood.

The site is fairly open with marked paths between the excavated areas for easy movement. Wear sturdy shoes and bring sun protection since there is little shade across the grounds.

Tools and metal remains found here show that residents already mastered advanced techniques for smelting and shaping metal. These skills were surprisingly sophisticated for the period and region.
