Casa del Cordón, Gothic palace in Burgos, Spain.
Casa del Cordón is a Gothic manor house in Burgos featuring a distinctive stone cord carved around its entrance, beneath which family coats of arms are displayed. The building wraps around a Renaissance courtyard with three-story galleries that form the heart of the interior space.
The house was built in the 15th century as a major residence for nobility in Burgos. It later became known for hosting significant meetings between important figures of the time.
The Renaissance courtyard reveals how noble families organized their homes, with a three-story gallery surrounding the space. The rooms facing the courtyard show the building practices and preferences that were common for wealthy households in the late medieval period.
Visitors can see the exterior and courtyard from Monday to Friday between 9:00 AM and 2:30 PM. Access is free during these office hours.
A grand staircase in neogothic style was later added inside the courtyard and now defines the central visual element of the interior. This staircase represents additions made long after the original structure was completed.
