Iglesia de San Gonzalo, Sevilla, Catholic church in León neighborhood, Seville, Spain.
Iglesia de San Gonzalo is a church in the León neighborhood featuring a neoclassical facade and three naves covered by vaults. A bell gable with three openings for bells marks the building's exterior.
The building was constructed between 1938 and 1942 and inaugurated by Cardinal Pedro Segura y Sáenz. This event marked an important religious addition for the neighborhood's growing community.
The interior walls display handmade tiles from Triana showing religious scenes that connect to both the city and the Mission Congregation. These ceramic works give the space its character and tell stories through their imagery.
The building stands on Calle de Nuestra Señora de la Salud facing Plaza de San Gonzalo, with its apse oriented toward Avenida de Álvar Núñez. This central location makes it easy to find and identify in the neighborhood.
Inside are sculptures by Luis Ortega Bru, including Jesus before Caiaphas and Saint John the Evangelist, created between 1975 and 1976. These works add an artistic dimension to the space that was added decades after the building was completed.
