Iglesia del Carmen de Abajo, Catholic church in Salamanca, Spain
The Iglesia del Carmen de Abajo features a single rectangular nave with a two-pitched roof and a circular lantern at its center, following baroque classicist architecture.
Built between 1760 and 1773 according to architect Lucas Ferro Caveiro's plans, the church underwent expansion in 1867 when Baltasar Ferreiro added a new presbytery.
The main altar displays a sculptural group of the Virgin presenting the scapular to Saint Simon Stock, created by Alejandro Carnicero in 1728.
Located at the intersection of Paseo del Empecinado and Calle del Carmen, the church maintains regular worship services and welcomes visitors throughout the week.
Saint John of the Cross resided in the former convent, commemorated by a plaque placed on the facade in 1991, marking the fourth centenary of his death.
