Museo de Historia de la Automoción de Salamanca, Automotive museum in Salamanca, Spain.
The Museo de Historia de la Automoción de Salamanca is a car museum in the center of Salamanca, Spain, housed in a converted industrial building. It displays around 100 vehicles from different periods, along with photographs, technical documents, and machinery that show how cars were made and used over time.
The building originally served as an electricity generating plant that supplied power to the city. It was converted and opened as a museum in September 2002, giving a new purpose to one of the city's old industrial sites.
The building that houses the museum was once a working factory, and that past still shows in the exposed structure and industrial feel of the rooms. Walking through the galleries, visitors can see how the car shifted from a luxury object to something ordinary people used every day.
The museum is in the center of Salamanca and easy to reach on foot from most of the old city. If you are driving, parking close by can be tricky, so leaving the car in a central parking garage and walking is a practical option.
The collection holds vehicles that were never mass produced, including early Spanish prototypes that never made it to market. These one-of-a-kind pieces show that Spain had its own attempts at building a car industry well before foreign brands took over.
