Pozo Azul, Natural spring in Covanera, Spain
Pozo Azul is a natural spring in Covanera where water emerges from underground caves to form a pool with distinctive blue coloring from limestone minerals. The clear water makes it easy to see into the depths where the spring originates.
Exploration of this spring began in 1964 when divers Joaquín and Pedro Plana first ventured into its underwater passages. Their early expeditions revealed the remarkable scale of the cave system beneath the surface.
The spring draws local people who come to watch how sunlight changes the water's color throughout the day at different times of year. The intense blue hues become especially visible during the warmer months.
Reach the spring via a short walking path of about 300 meters from the parking area off the N-623 road near the village. The route is relatively flat and easy to navigate, making it accessible for most visitors.
The underground cave network connected to this spring extends for many kilometers beneath the surface and attracts experienced cave divers from around the world. Most casual visitors see only the beautiful blue pool and remain unaware of this vast submerged world.
