Turbina

Turbina is a mountain summit in the Sierra del Cuera range that rises above the surrounding valleys of Asturias. The peak stands as part of a limestone formation that extends across the region, creating a distinct backdrop in the landscape.

The peak was shaped over geological time through erosion and uplift that carved the limestone into its current form. These processes created the distinctive mountain profile visible in the landscape today.

Local shepherds maintain traditional grazing practices in the meadows surrounding Turbina, where cattle roam freely during warmer months.

Hikers need good endurance and sturdy footwear, particularly after rain when the ground becomes slippery. The warmer months offer the most comfortable conditions for walking the trails.

From its peak, visitors observe both the Cantabrian Sea coastline from Ribadesella to Comillas and the Picos de Europa mountain range.
