Playas de Las Cámaras y Los Curas

Playas de Las Cámaras and Los Curas are two sandy beaches in Celoriu that separate at high tide and merge into one long shore when the water recedes. The beaches are framed by rocky outcrops and sit in a sheltered bay with gradual access to the water.

The name Los Curas comes from the monks of San Salvador de Celorio Monastery, who lived and traveled in this coastal zone for centuries. The monastery itself was founded in the early medieval period and became a major influence on the region's development.

These two beaches sit directly behind the Monastery of San Salvador, and locals still recall the monks who walked these shores centuries ago. The connection between the religious site and the coastline remains visible in how the landscape is arranged today.

The beaches have showers, bins, and lifeguard coverage during the warm months, making them well-equipped for visitors. The low tide period offers the best experience, when the two sections join together and reveal more sandy space to explore.

Freshwater springs bubble up from beneath the sand in several spots, creating small pools that locals call gorgoritos. These natural seeps change in visibility depending on the season and water levels.
