San Juan y San Pedro de Renueva

San Juan y San Pedro de Renueva is a 20th-century church in León featuring twin tall bell towers and a layout shaped like a Latin cross. The interior is divided into three naves with barrel-vaulted ceilings and an ornately designed dome positioned above the transept area.

The church was built between 1947 and 1953 according to designs by architect Juan Crisóstomo Torbado following a bishop's initiative. A distinctive feature is a Baroque portal from 1711 that was relocated from ruins elsewhere.

The church takes its name from two saints and displays a blend of modern and older artworks inside. Visitors can see a 16th-century Crucified Christ hanging above the main altar, standing alongside contemporary altarpieces.

The building features a solid construction with barrel vaults and sturdy supports that make its interior layout easy to follow. Visitors can explore the grounds on foot and access the different areas of the transept and naves without difficulty.

The most remarkable element is the restored Baroque portal on the facade, which originally came from a monastery located several kilometers away. This portal was carefully relocated and integrated into the modern church, creating a fascinating connection between old and new architecture.
