Castelo de Doiras, Medieval castle in Vilarello, Spain

The stone fortress stands on a 748-meter hill between two valleys formed by Rego de Vilarello and Rego de Riamonte rivers.

Built in the 15th century by Diego Pérez-Osorio y Guzmán, First Lord of Cervantes, the castle protected the Santiago Way entrance to Galicia.

The castle holds a connection to Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, as local records indicate his family's ancestral ties to this region.

In January 2024, the Cervantes Council and Lugo Provincial Council purchased the castle for 960,000 euros to ensure public access.

The fortress features a rectangular base with slate masonry walls reaching 8 meters high and a 14-meter homage tower.
