Collegiate of Santa María de Cluniaco, Villafranca del Bierzo

The Collegiate of Santa María de Cluniaco is a Baroque church with three naves, a pentagonal chancel, and intricately vaulted ceilings crowned by a central dome. The building uses granite and slate stonework throughout, blending late Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architectural elements.

A former monastery was transformed into a collegiate church in 1529 through a papal bull from Pope Clement VII at the request of Pedro de Toledo. This change marked the site's transition to a new role within the diocesan structure.

The church displays Renaissance decorative elements similar to those seen in buildings across Salamanca and at San Esteban. These details shape the interior and give the space a richly ornamented character that visitors can appreciate while walking through.
