Pantà de la Baells, Stausee in Spanien
Pantà de la Baells is a large reservoir in the Berguedà region, created by a dam built across the Llobregat river. The water stretches across a wide area and is surrounded by green hills and forest.
The dam was built between 1970 and 1976, fundamentally changing the landscape by flooding several small villages including Miralles and La Baells. Since then, it has served to store water for Barcelona and the surrounding area while controlling flooding on the Llobregat river.
The name comes from the village of La Baells, which was flooded when the reservoir was created. Today, visitors use the area for recreation and relaxation, transforming it into a place where people engage with the landscape in ways different from the past.
You can easily reach the reservoir by car or bus, as roads lead directly to the area. The site offers parking, picnic areas, and paths for walking or biking, making it ideal for a day trip from nearby towns.
The reservoir not only stores water but also generates electricity through controlled water turbines. The Blue Way of La Baells connects the reservoir to other natural areas, offering a new link for boat trips and water sports along the coast.
