Puig de Missa, Fortified church on hilltop in Santa Eulària des Riu, Spain.

Puig de Missa is a stone church sitting on an elevated hilltop in Santa Eulària des Riu with a compact, reinforced structure. The building features a barrel-vaulted interior space with small side chapels and a rounded defensive tower attached to one side.

The building was constructed in the 16th century as a fortified church with added protection against sea raids and pirate attacks. It has remained largely unchanged since its completion and continues to function as a religious center for the area.

The space holds artistic elements that reveal how craftsmanship and religious devotion came together, with ornate altar decorations and carved details that local visitors have long regarded as treasures. These works show how people expressed their faith through beauty.

The location is accessible from the lower town via a series of stairs or walking path, and the climb offers views across the area. Wear sturdy footwear since the path is steep and ground surfaces are uneven in places.

The rounded tower attached to the side once held weapons and ammunition, serving a genuine defensive function against sea attackers. This feature shows how religious and military purposes were combined in a single structure.
