Palacio Insular de Tenerife, Government building in Plaza de España, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain.
The Palacio Insular de Tenerife is an administrative headquarters featuring a rectangular layout with a central courtyard at its core. It rises five stories with a basement section running beneath the middle portion of the building.
Construction of this administrative building began in 1934 under President Maximino Acea following a design by architect Marrero Regalado. It was completed in 1940 and has served as the main office of the Cabildo of Tenerife since then.
The main hall features marble walls and a grand staircase that leads to the Assembly Hall. There, murals by José Aguiar depict scenes from the mythology of the island's original inhabitants alongside the Spanish conquest.
The building stands at Plaza de Espana 1 and is easily visible from the square. Keep in mind this is an active government office, so public access may be limited depending on official activities.
The northeast corner features a six-story clock tower with a carillon made by Viuda de Perea in 1951. The bells play every 15 minutes, creating a familiar sound across the square.
