Castle of Burguillos del Cerro, Medieval castle in Burguillos del Cerro, Spain.
Castle of Burguillos del Cerro is a fortress with a rectangular layout featuring two main towers, Torre Parda and Torre del Homenaje, plus three smaller defensive structures. The complex forms a unified structure that reflects medieval defensive strategy.
King Ferdinand III of Castile and León granted the fortress to the Templars in 1238, and they held it until their order was dissolved in the early 1300s. Afterward it passed to regional noble families who maintained it for centuries.
The gateway shows Gothic craftsmanship with the coat of arms of the Zúñiga family, who shaped the fortress over many generations. Visitors can see the marks of this noble rule in the stonework.
Wear sturdy shoes as the paths around and up the fortress are uneven and sometimes steep. It is wise to check opening times before arriving, as access can occasionally be limited.
The Torre del Homenaje contains two vaulted chambers linked by an internal staircase, an unusual design for its era. A projecting defensive structure above the main entrance provides protection from attacks from above.
