Refugio de Respomuso, Mountain hut at 2220 meters in Sallent de Gállego, Spain.
Refugio de Respomuso is a mountain hut built at about 2220 meters elevation in the Spanish Pyrenees near Ibón de Respomuso lake. The building stands surrounded by steep rocky peaks and high ridges that rise sharply on all sides.
The refuge was built in 1993 and was among the first high-altitude shelters in the region to include internal bathrooms and modern facilities. This improvement made extended stays at that elevation more comfortable for mountaineers.
The hut is often full in summer as climbers gather here to share stories and prepare for their expeditions to nearby summits. You will see people from many countries sitting together at the tables, talking about the routes they plan to tackle.
The hut has about 105 beds in heated rooms, along with showers and a cafeteria for guests. Access is possible through a several-hour hike from La Sarra parking area or via other established mountain paths depending on your starting point.
The hut sits at the base of Balaitus mountain, a distinctive peak that attracts many climbers. From here you can follow multiple hiking routes that connect to neighboring summits and lead past glacial formations in the landscape.
