Valle de Valdosín, Mountain valley in León province, Spain
Valle de Valdosín is a mountain valley in eastern León province, situated at the border with Asturias on the southern slope of the Ventaniella Pass. The landscape features steep slopes with mixed forests and open pastures, cut through by mountain streams and natural ravines.
The valley was crossed by a Roman road that connected Riaño with Ponga in antiquity, maintaining importance through the medieval period. This route served for centuries as a key mountain corridor linking distant regions.
The Eastern Royal Cattle Track of León begins in this valley, extending from the mountains of Riaño to Badajoz province for seasonal livestock migration.
Access to the valley is via the CL-635 road from La Uña village, with marked paths leading toward Ventaniella Pass. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear and bring appropriate mountain gear, as terrain can be steep and exposed in places.
The valley shelters the Hayona de Valdosín, a 350-year-old beech tree standing over 23 meters tall with an exceptionally massive trunk. This ancient tree now holds protected status as a natural monument and draws visitors seeking to locate this remarkable specimen.
