Parque Yamaguchi, Japanese park in Pamplona, Spain.
Parque Yamaguchi is a Japanese-style park in Pamplona featuring a diverse collection of trees and plants, including Japanese cherry trees, ginkgos, oaks, and giant redwoods spread across the grounds. The site also houses the Pamplona Planetarium, which offers astronomy programs and science exhibitions throughout the year in its large projection dome.
The park was established in 1996 following a twinning agreement between Pamplona and Yamaguchi city in Japan. Japanese landscape architects designed the garden layout in 1997, bringing traditional Japanese garden principles to the site.
The garden reflects the sister-city relationship between Pamplona and Yamaguchi through its traditional Japanese design elements. Visitors walk past a koi pond, waterfall, bridge, and wooden pavilion that work together to create the feeling of stepping into a Japanese landscape.
The park is easy to explore on foot, with pathways winding through different sections for a leisurely walk. If you wish to visit the planetarium shows, check ahead about the exhibition schedules, as programs run at various times throughout the year.
Within the park sits the Galaxy Garden, a creative space where shrubs are arranged to represent stars and celestial bodies of the Milky Way. This unusual display offers a distinctive way to think about the cosmos while walking through the gardens.
