Puerto Naos beach, Black sand beach in Puerto Naos, La Palma, Spain.
Puerto Naos is a volcanic beach with black sand stretching roughly 500 meters along the coast, lined with tall palms and backed by clear Atlantic waters. The shore features multiple entry points and complete facilities including showers, restrooms, and first aid services.
This location served as a shipping port for banana exports in the early 1900s before gradually becoming a tourist destination. The shift from commerce to recreation reshaped the western coast of La Palma.
Local fishermen work daily at the northern end of this shore, selling their catch to nearby restaurants that line the waterfront.
The beach is easily accessible with multiple entry points and is well suited for visitors with reduced mobility. Lifeguards are present and shade from palms as well as changing facilities are plentiful.
The black volcanic sand contains olivine crystal fragments that create subtle greenish reflections when struck by sunlight. This feature is only visible at certain angles, adding a hidden visual quality to the shore.
