Los Campitos, Mountain settlement in Los Llanos de Aridane, La Palma, Spain.
Los Campitos was a mountain settlement in Los Llanos de Aridane on La Palma, situated at around 500 meters elevation with terrain sloping toward views of the Atlantic Ocean. The area contained houses, agricultural plots, and pastures woven into the surrounding landscape.
The settlement began in the 15th century within the canton of Tihuya and later became communal grazing land for livestock. Over the following centuries it developed into an established agricultural community.
The neighborhood maintained traditional agricultural practices through generations, focusing on dryland farming and animal husbandry methods.
The place was reached before 2021 mainly through Camino El Pastelero road and the main road LP-2. Today only the volcanic landscape and some memorials remain at the surface.
The entire place was buried under lava flows during the 2021 Cumbre Vieja eruption, erasing centuries of human settlement. Today it stands as a silent witness to nature's power and the loss of a community.
